Headed to Provence this summer and want to enjoy the outdoor village markets? Here are 5 tips to help you enjoy them just a wee bit more…
1. Go early! The earlier you go the better. Most stands are open by 8 am and the crowds only get larger as time ticks away. If you wait until 11 to arrive, a lot of produce is picked over, it’s is harder to get parking and the crowds can be overwhelming. Closing time is around 12-12:30 so plan accordingly.
2. Bring your own market basket or bag. There are so many beautiful things to tempt you at the market-your basket will be overflowing!
3. Cash is king- while some vendors may take credit cards, cash is most appreciated. Smaller coins and smaller bills are preferred.
4. Wear comfy clothes. summer is hot in Provence so lightweight linen and comfortable sandals are key.
5. Take it slow- talk to the vendors about their products, taste the samples and leave time to people watch while grabbing an espresso or verre de vin at a local café.
