We are all getting tired of the pandemic and are spending way more hours watching TV than we should. But, why not try to fit a little French fix into your evening routine this weekend? Here are 5 French shows I recommend. Some are movies and some are series - all enjoyable and all available now:

1. A French village / Un village français (2009)
An historical fiction series (7 seasons in total) about a small village in the Jura that is invaded by the Germans in World War 2. The series, in French, provides a glimpse into the characters of the town during this turbulent time and how they dealt with the German Occupation in their lives. In French with English Subtitles. Available on Amazon Prime.

2. Emily in Paris (2020)
I know, I know - terribly cliché and a bit cringeworthy, but Emily in Paris seems just the right amount of French 'cheese' we need right now. Emily Cooper, who fortunately for her, finds herself in Paris working as a social media guru in a French marketing firm (non, she can't speak French!)....has a handsome downstairs neighbor, stumbles upon another American friend in a park ...and the typical rom-com formula ensues. It does provide a nice venue for us to window shop the streets and avenues of Paris. Available on Netflix.

3. Escape to the Chateau
Truth be told, I fell in love with this series while living in London. Which set my husband and me off on a trip through France searching for our own perfect chateau to renovate and live out our dreams. Then reality hit, and back to our London flat we went. That does not mean we still don't dream about the chateau life and you can too. Escape to the Chateau follows the real-lives of Dick and Angel Strawbridge (and their ADORABLE children) through their renovation of a centuries-old chateau in the French countryside. For home DIY fans this one is supersized - chateau style. Found on the Peacock channel...the spin off show Escape to the Chateau DIY follows other intrepid Brits who made the move to their own French chateaus as well.

4. A Call to Spy
Bon Courage. This thrilling spy drama tells the real life story of women who were recruited for England's Special Operations Executive (SOE) during WWII. The SOE recruited women to their intelligence operations as it was believed they could move around more freely in German Occupied France. A well done story about France during the war, the collaborators hidden within the hexagon and these great women in history. Found on Amazon Prime.

5. Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008)
Ending on a funny note, Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis is surely that. Danny Boon stars in this comical romp about a postal employee, who thinking he is being transferred to the glorious sunny south of France but ends up in the small town of Bergues in Northern France far away from the sun. It's laugh out loud funny. In French with English subtitles. Found on Amazon prime.
